Claude Monet was an artist who resided in Giverny, Normandy. His paintings of Normandy have made him one of the greatest painters of all time. In 2004 one of his paintings was sold at auction for US$20.1 million.

On a trip to New Orleans, Barman Jeffery Morgenthaler learnt of the Vieux Carre (a classic New Orleans drink).Upon his return to Portland he started making this drink for his customers. As the night wore on he started to run out of ingredients so he improvised and created the Autumn Leaves.

Kingston was originally a small agricultural town until the Port Royal earthquake in 1692. People took refuge along the waterfront to escape from the horror of Port Royal. By 1716 Kingston had become Jamaica’s largest town & the centre for trade.

Brandy/ Benedictine/ Raisin Syrup/ Peychauds Bitters/ Cloves

The monks of the Benedictine Abbey of Fecamp in Normandy had developed a medicinal, aromatic, herbal elixir. The elixir was produced at the Abbey until it was destroyed during the French Revolution. On the grounds of Fecamp (where the distillery once again resides) the family have a “hall of counterfeits” to pay tribute to those who tried to reproduce the secret beverage but failed miserably.

Created in 1939 to celebrate the release of the Dreyfus Hudson engine which pulled the Twentieth Century Limited train between New York & Chicago in only 16 hours.

Bourbon/ Brandy/ Italian Vermouth/ Benedictine/ Peychauds Bitters/ Angostura Bitters

This drink was created in 1938 by Walter Bergeron at the Monteleone Hotel in the old French quarter in New Orleans. The Moneleone is one of the grandest hotels in the quarter which features a carousel lounge.

Canadian Whisky/ French Vermouth/ Lemon Juice/ Raspberry Syrup/ Orange Bitters

This drink was created at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in 1926 as a tribute to the people in America during prohibition. A Scofflaw was considered to be someone who flouted the prohibition laws and continued to drink in speakeasies throughout the country.

Created in Ian Flemings 1953 novel Casino Royale. Bond requested for a specific style of Martini “3 measures Gordon’s, 1 of vodka & half of Kina Lillet.” After pronouncing he was going to patent the drink when he found a name, he then decided on his girl of the moment Vesper Lynd.

Brandy/ Dark Crème de Cacao/ Cream/ Nutmeg

This is a twist on the classic Alexander (gin, dark crème de cacao & cream). Supposedly created at the time of the wedding between Mary Princess of Harewood & Viscount Lascelles in London during 1922.
